Meta Communities Summit Recap

Meta hosted its annual communities summit to give updates on what's to come for groups. I very quickly jotted down the few noteworthy things to come.I have to admit, every year it seems anti-climactic but this year took the cake. Nothing super special is coming that would be particularly beneficial for small businesses (especially handmade) except maybe the one-way message system. Very soon,  we are going to be able to send one-way messages  to group members about special updates. Think of this like the @everyone feature but directly to their inbox, and they can't reply to it :) We will also be given private chat groups within events published by groups,Honestly, it sounds like Meta is taking notes from apps like Slack to enable...

Week Two: Navigating a failing business

You know the drill. Let's see how Dorie spent her time this week...   Sunday, October 9Lucky me! I made some freebies for a drop this coming week and cut two pieces. I kept up with stories today off and on but that was really it. I didn't post a thing otherwise! You'll notice as the weeks go on I abide by the new hours, but right now.. things look a little weird. It's also an ego bruise to notice how many hours are being poured into a business that's bringing forth pennies. I'm literally baring all here. I keep a daily tracker on Airtable that keeps me focused. I also keep a to-do list with pen and paper right by my side with a list of tasks as well as my production list set out in order. Saturday, October 1 I did something I rarely do... I slept most of the day! I still managed to post 4 stories...

Navigating A Failing Business

May 2020, I had my biggest month and brought in over $30,000 in sales. I was confused. We were in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic where everyone was stuck at home. I navigated ensuring my manufacturing team was staying safe and keeping our materials sterilized, hiring as cautiously as I could to help shipping, and changing out vendors as needed because of material shortages. I thought this was finally it. After running a "slow-as-you-go" paced small business since January 2015, I had finally tapped into a bigger market. And then it just stopped. No one in modern times had experienced what comes after a drawn out pandemic. People returned back to work. They vacationed again, and somewhere along the way, they realized they pulled...
